Neoplatonist philosopher, astronomer, and mathematician in Alexandria, Egypt. First female mathematician with well-recorded life. Head of Platonist school c. 400 AD. Wrote commentaries on Diophantus Arithmetica and Apollonius conic sections. Murdered by Christian mob in March 415 AD during political feud between prefect Orestes and bishop Cyril.
