Athenian historian, philosopher, and soldier. Student of Socrates who defended him after execution. Famous for Anabasis ("The March Up Country"), chronicling the retreat of 10,000 Greek mercenaries after Cyrus the Younger failed coup against Persian king. Also wrote on Spartan society and military tactics.
