Italian writer, poet, correspondent of Petrarch, important Renaissance humanist. Wrote The Decameron (1348-53) and On Famous Women. With Petrarch laid foundations for Renaissance humanism, raised vernacular literature to classics status. One of Three Crowns of Florence.
