Greek philosopher from Citium, Cyprus, founder of Stoicism. Taught in Athens Stoa Poikile (Painted Colonnade) from 301 BC, giving Stoicism its name. Emphasized virtue, reason, living according to nature. Influenced by Cynics and Socratic philosophy. School became dominant philosophy in Roman world.
