aka Pheidias, Fidias, The Great Pheidias

480 BCE – 430 BCE·Classical Greece·Historical

Greek sculptor, painter, and architect of the 5th century BC. Created two of antiquity most famous works: colossal Statue of Zeus at Olympia (one of Seven Wonders) and Athena Parthenos in the Parthenon. Artistic director of Parthenon construction. According to Plutarch, imprisoned and died in jail, though circumstances disputed.
