Athenian general and statesman, son of Marathon hero Miltiades. Fought at Salamis (480 BC), became strategos. Led Delian League forces, destroyed Persian fleet at Battle of Eurymedon River (466 BC). Pro-Spartan policies contrasted with Pericles. Died during siege of Kition, Cyprus.
