Spartan regent, son of King Cleombrotus I, nephew of Leonidas. Led Hellenic League forces to victory at Battle of Plataea (479 BC), crushing Persian land invasion. Later accused of conspiring with Persia and medizing. Starved to death by fellow Spartans after taking sanctuary in temple.
