Greek polymath from Cyrene (Libya): mathematician, geographer, poet, astronomer, music theorist. Third librarian at Alexandria (c. 240 BC). Famous for calculating Earth circumference with remarkable accuracy using shadow angles at Alexandria and Syene. Invented "Sieve of Eratosthenes" for finding prime numbers.
