Athenian statesman and orator, greatest of ancient Greek orators. Famous for Philippic speeches rallying Athens against Philip II of Macedonia. Overcame speech impediment through rigorous training. Idealized Athens freedom and resisted Macedonian expansion. Took his own life in 322 BC to avoid capture by Antipater.
